Built on the simulator and taken further by hand. All four nerves entering through the internal acoustic canal are reconstructed — cochlear, facial, superior and inferior vestibular — the cochlear nerve traced as far as the cochlea, the facial nerve to the stylomastoid foramen.
A defect in the tegmen lets the middle ear be watched directly; mastoidectomy has been performed and the cells cleared so the antrum reads clearly; the semicircular canals are dehisced so the places they sit — and the places a real drill meets them — are visible.
